For assignment two, I set out to meet the task given, to take one picture of a subject in the center of the photo, and then another using the rule of thirds.
The lighting wasn't perfect when I took these, but I decided to take them anyway because the scenery was so pretty. I actually like the shadowed look of the bottom picture, but I could have made them a little brighter with the editing software, had I so chosen. I just wasn't sure if we were supposed to do that with our assignments. Anyhow, here they are, pictures of my sisters at the Afton Overlook in Virginia yesterday. I think that using thr rule of thirds made the photo a lot more interesting!

I like the picture of the red bucket through the fence the best! Very cool idea. The picture is well balanced and really draws you to the red bucket.
ReplyDeleteBy using the "rule of thirds", you invite the rest of the world into your view. With the subject centered, the view is pretty much only the subject. Yes, there are other things there, but because of the way composition works, the hierarchy of the mind places most importance on the obvious, so when we place the subject to the side, the mind is confused and starts to make up stories as to why. The mind wants to make everything even or balanced, so it takes all the given information and makes it a cohesive story.
ReplyDeleteA nice view of the mountains in the background. You second photo looks so much better!
ReplyDeleteThe rule of thirds really makes your second picture pop! The lighting was a little dark on your faces but it was a great shot nonetheless. Thanks for sharing!
